Cumbria Cruises nominated for British Travel Awards 2010

Cumbria Cruises (formerly Cumbria Cruise Club) has been named by the British Travel Awards as one of the short listed contenders for the Best Cruise Holiday Retailer AWARD 2010.

Leading independent cruise specialist Cumbria Cruises has achieved over 28 years as a top UK cruise agent. Now part of The Co-operative Travel Group, Cumbria Cruises was formed in 1982 and was one of the first travel agents to specialise in cruising in the 1980’s under the name Cumbria Cruise Club, with a long established relationship with all major cruise lines, affording the best deals, the most up to date information and an enviable reputation.

In 2004, another well established cruise brand, Cruise Savers International became part of the organisation, operating from the same premises in Barrow in Furness, Cumbria. At the end of 2006 these two leading cruise companies joined together; therefore combining two great brands into one cruise agency: Cumbria Cruises.

Call Centre Manager; Jane Redshaw, said: “To be considered for this award is a huge achievement and is an accolade in itself.  The management team in Cumbria are extremely proud of the workforce in Barrow as they are a key factor to the business obtaining this recognition for excellence.”

BTA’s chief executive Lorraine Barnes Burton said: “The British Travel Awards are widely considered to be the “Oscars” of the travel industry. It’s the largest awards programme in the UK created to reward travel companies and the winning accolade is the benchmark for excellence when it comes to finding out who really is the best in the business of travel for the UK consumer.”

Companies were nominated by travel industry professionals and a selection of the previous year’s consumer voters, and the short listed companies now go to the consumer voting stage. In 2009 over 100,000 votes were cast with the results scrutinized and audited by Deloitte LLP.

The winners of the 2010 British Travel Awards will be announced at a glittering ceremony on 4 November at the Battersea Evolution in Battersea Park, London. www.britishtravelawards.com
